Team Leads:

Karyn Carlson, DVM

Dr. Karyn Carlson is a Tucson local who has been working in shelter and ER work since graduation from Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, PE, Canada. She heard Dr. Gellar speak at a conference in 2018 about his work with the pets of the homeless and decided she wanted to start a chapter in her home town where the services were much needed. Between life and COVID, it wasn't until 12/2021 that the first clinic happened. The timing was perfect as it has really helped balance the private practice career she has pursued at the time. Currently, monthly clinics are being held and the goal is to expand with the help of the local veterinary school and vocational programs.

Kim Maynard

Hi there, my name is Kim! I have been in VetMed for over 20 years and recently took the plunge and became a CVT.  I have found that doing volunteer work with animals is good for my soul. I started helping with The Street Dog Coalition a few years ago, and I truly love being able to help provide veterinary care for pets that wouldn’t be able to get it without our help. I have also volunteered with the Parker Project, doing spay/neuter trips throughout Arizona, and I recently joined the Visiting Veterinarian International team and went to St. Croix to do a spay/neuter trip. When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband and our perfect son!! We love going on trips to new places and of course spending time at Disney.

Kirsty McKenzie, CVT

I have been a certified veterinary technician in Tucson for 12 years working in emergency and general practice. I have been volunteering with various spay and neuter clinics, vaccine programs and I have learned how much I enjoy helping our community and educating the public! The Street Dog Coalition has done so much to help our underserved population and I’m so proud to be part of this organization! When not volunteering or working, I enjoy baking, crocheting, crafts, and spending time with my family and 5 dogs!
